Take a break to Visit Kinglake

Kinglake in Victoria

The Kinglake area in the Yarra Valley is 57,000 acres of pristine nature. Located little more than an hour northeast of the city, it’s the perfect quick travel escape. Though with its eucalyptus forests and native flora and fauna, you’ll probably want to stay longer. Whether you are camping or caravanning, visiting for a day or a week, seeking relaxation or adventure, Kinglake will not disappoint.

The Kinglake National Park

Kinglake National Park is a mere 50km from Melbourne. The land includes the traditional Country of the Taungurung and Wurundjeri Peoples (Parks Victoria). You’re sure to be amazed by how close the natural habitat is to the city. In fact, you can still see the city. Stunning views stretch across the Yarra Valley as well as across the city, Port Phillip Bay and out to the You Yangs in the west.

Mason Falls Picnic Ground and Waterfall

Mason Falls offers sights, sounds, and tastes (if you are keen to fire up one of their free gas barbecues). Enjoy lunch at the picnic grounds before a short hike to the falls. Watch out for wallabies, kangaroos, wombats, possums, and echidnas, and keep an ear open for the sounds of cockatoos, king parrots, and rosellas – or was that a lyrebird? For geology enthusiasts, look out for fossils in the sedimentary strata from when it was at the bottom of the sea.

Kinglake Forest Adventures

Seeking something a little more adventurous? Head out to Kinglake Forest Adventures where you can climb a tree! Then, make your way across swing bridges and fly along a zipline. For those looking for even more adrenaline, how about a free fall jump from a 9m platform? If you prefer to get your adrenalin with your feet on the ground, maybe you’d prefer to go mountain biking instead. Whether you are a grey nomad or a family with small children, all levels and ages are catered for.

After a day of relaxation, adventure, or both, settle for the night in your tent, camper or caravan among the eucalyptus forest by a mountain stream at the serene and accommodating Gums Campground. If you love native fauna, flora, relaxation and adventure, add Kinglake to your must-see destinations list. The only thing you won’t find at Kinglake is a lake!
