Mount Disappointment – Despite its name, it won’t disappoint you

Mount Disappointment

Based on the land of the Kulin nation, Mount Disappointment is a state forest in Victoria that is about an hour’s drive north of Melbourne.

Only named Mount Disappointment because the explorers who found it were disappointed that Port Phillip Bay could not be viewed from the summit due to the dense tree growth.

The forest itself is far from disappointing. With its stunning wildlife, it is one of the most accessible forest areas for recreation and use your camper trailer in Melbourne.

CAMPSITES:

The campsites on Mount Disappointment are Regular Camp, Andersons Garden, and No.1 Camp.

There are even facilities to accommodate horse riders at the No.1 Campsite. The campsites and all areas for visitors have picnic tables and most of them also have toilets and fireplaces available for use during those cold nights.

BIKE TRAIL:

For people who love bike riding, Main Mountain Rd has a trail bike visitor area which is a stunning track to follow, however, something to note is that riders and all vehicles must be registered and can not be ridden off the roads, walking tracks, or around campgrounds.

STRATH CREEK FALLS:

The surrounding forest of Mount Disappointment is the perfect place to explore.

Strath Creek Falls is stunning and one of the most popular walks. The walk is only 45 minutes and leads to amazing views of the falls pouring over the rock face and into the gully.

SUMMIT WALK:

Summit Walk begins at Blairs Hut Picnic Area and continues through the fern valley to the peak of Mount Disappointment.

During this walk, you can also learn about the explorers who discovered Mount Disappointment, Hume, and Hovell while taking in the views of the area.

SUNDAY CREEK RESERVOIR WALK:

The Sunday Creek Reservoir Walk starting point is Andersons Garden Picnic Area. The track follows adjacent Sunday Creek and passing through a boardwalk and three footbridges before arriving at Sunday Creek Reservoir.

MOUNT DISAPPOINTMENT FOREST DRIVE:

Mount Disappointment Forest Drive is a three-hour return drive with views of the summit, Strath Creek Falls, and the Mountain Ash forests. If you feel like staying after the drive, there is plenty of parking available for trailers.

And there you have it. Mount Disappointment. A perfect travel destination. No matter what route you take or how you travel, Mount Disappointment is a great escape to nature and is the perfect opportunity for photos.
