A hidden gem in The Otways

One of the must-visit locations in the Otways is the village of Gellibrand. Set among picturesque rural landscapes at the foothills of The Otways, Gellibrand is approximately 170kms from Melbourne and a short 20 The Old Beechy Rail Trail runs through Gellibrand, with the local information centre housed in the old train station offering a great photo opportunity.

For those looking to use Gellibrand as a base, The Otways Tourist Park is a fantastic park offering powered and unpowered sites as well as well equipped cabins. The in-house bistro is a fantastic spot to swap stories with fellow travellers and be sure to look out for the resident koalas who wander around the park! If you’re looking to go off-grid, Dando’s Camping Spot on Sayers Track has over 50 sites as well as picnic tables, fireplaces, caravan access, and toilets. It does get very busy on weekends and during holidays.

A short drive out of Gellibrand will find you in the quaint village of Beech Forest which is close to the photogenic Otways Redwoods as well as the Hopetoun Falls, set amongst an ancient rainforest. For a bite to eat after visiting the redwoods and falls, you can’t go past either The Beechy Hotel and The Otway NouriShed.
