Camping Dogs

The dog is considered a part of the family in most households so it is understandable why you want to take them camping with you. If you spend lots of time camping with your family dog then it is a pleasure for him or her to join you for a camping trip. Make sure they are current on all shots though before you even consider it.

Pay attention to the rules though before you take any dog camping. Not all facilities allow them on the premises. If you show up with your dog then you may be asked to leave and that will ruin the camping trip for everyone. There could be limits about the size of the dog or even the number of dogs per person.

Some camping areas require a deposit when dogs are present and that can increase the cost of what you pay. Find out if that is part of the set up too so you don’t have any surprises when you pay for your camping event. Bring along plenty of food for your dog and water. A dish that you can take along with you on your activities means that your dog can always get a drink of water when he or she wants one.

Also, you need to be aware of where your dog can go and where it is prohibited. For example it may be acceptable for you to have your dog outdoors at a campsite or in your caravan. Yet they don’t allow them indoors for cabin rentals.

Your dog may be allowed to go on hiking trails with you but not in the water at the swimming area. There are often rules too that require all dogs at campgrounds to be on a leash at all times. You also need to think about how your dog interacts with others. Will it be fine seeing other dogs around or will it become aggressive?

It is possible to have a successful camping trip for your family and to bring the family dog along. However, you need to make sure you have all of the details well in advance. Don’t assume it is going to be a great set up somewhere for your dog to come along.

If that isn’t the case then you will need to either change the location of your camping trip or find someone that can watch over your beloved pet while you are away.
