Falls Drive Killarney & Condamine

Condamine Creek Crossing

The freedom of being able to go camping again is slowly emerging, and just in time for the lovely winter’s days that Queenslanders love. Keeping to within a few hundred kilometres of either Brisbane or the Gold Coast, fascinating areas to explore are the Southern Downs and Granite Belt regions, incorporating the gorgeous towns of Stanthorpe, Warwick and Killarney.

Falls Drive

This 80km driving and exploration route is one of the most-popular in the area, and starts at Browns Falls which boasts a picnic and play area, BBQs and toilets. A 600m walk will take you along a track, with foot creek crossings before reaching Browns Falls. Stunning Daggs Falls has a drop of 39m and the view is quite spectacular and located not far off Spring Creek Road. Opposite a gorgeous old caravan park, you will find the 45 minute circuit through open forest into rainforest, in which you will discover Queen Mary Falls. There is a great deck and vantage point to take photos of Queen Mary Falls, usually with a rainbow showing through the floating misty spray. Stay for a picnic or have a cuppa at the kiosk located at Queen Mary Falls Caravan Park. If your journey continues for another 8km up the Main Range National Park road, you will come across Carr’s Lookout, with amazing views over the Head Valley, the Scenic Rim and Mount Tambourine. Far below are the headwaters of the Condamine River, part of the Murray-Darling river system.

Condamine River Crossings

Another half day of adventure of note, is the Condamine River Creek Crossings, 14 in total and great fun in a 4×4. Stop for a swim, see the cows, photograph the outback dunny and old rusty cars and let the kids play in the rock pools. Best when rain has been had, and accessible via Killarney, you will exit almost at The Heads. Best a while after good rain in the area, which will have the falls running, the grass green and some great depth to the Condamine Crossings.

Camping

There are many Youcamp properties surrounding Killarney that would be a perfect place to camp for a few days, or caravan parks that would welcome travellers and their tourist dollars. You are sure to find that perfect camping spot that you can make some 2020 camping memories in.
